Survival Arabic is written totally in transliteration. That means there is no need to learn the Arabic alphabet in the beginning.
A 6 week, 12-segment course designed to help the new resident understand and use simple phrases in Egyptian Colloquial Arabic . These phrases consist of greetings, market terms and general survival Arabic used in everyday life.

This track offers students an in depth, multi-level learning experience in Egyptian Colloquial Arabic. By the end of the program, students should be comforable functioning in Arabic alone throughout their day to day interactions with Egyptians. Each course module lasts 8 weeks, and comprises 32 hours of instruction time.
Beginner ECA
Level I
This course is designed to help the student understand and use the basics of Arabic excluding verbs. Emphasis is given to proper pronunciation.
Level II
This course is designed to help the student understand and use more detailed Arabic including more complex grammar and verbs.
Level III
This course is designed to continue the level II study focusing particularly on the various verb tenses and their uses.
Intermediate ECA
Level I
The intermediate class makes use of the Kalimni 'Arabi I-V textbook to further enhance students grammatical and linguistic skills in ECA.This course focuses on listening comprehension and speaking skills. Emphasis will be placed on helping students master the vocabulary and forms used in everyday life by Egyptians. Students will be exposed to a number of realistic conversational opportunities with Egyptians in homes, coffee shops, etc. Level II
This course gives students a command of Egyptian colloquial language. students will go deeper into the vocabulary and forms used in every day conversations. Students will be able to understand and use them comfortably.
Advanced ECA
Students will learn to use complex
Arabic constructions along with Egyptian colloquialisms. Students will expand
their vocabulary to include specialty subject areas. The class will be
conducted by listening to authentic Egyptian media and conversation with the
teacher on a number of topics. The teacher will focus on helping the student
speak and communicate in ways that are readily used and understood by
Egyptians.
Modern Standard Arabic is utilized in nearly all printed Arabic texts, as well as the Arab Media. This track offers students a chance to learn the essentials of reading and writing in MSA. Each course module lasts 8 weeks, and comprises 32 hours of instruction time.
Beginner MSA
Level I
Level I introduces students to the Arabic alphabet and basic MSA grammar/ vocabulary using the Alif Baa / Al Kitaab Series.
Level II
This class is designed for the student who has basic exposure to Arabic in an academic setting (typically 1-2 semesters). The student should have completed chapters 1-8 in Al Kitaab I and be able to understand basic grammatical structures in Arabic.
Intermediate MSA
Level I
This class is designed for the student who has mastered beginning Arabic in an academic setting (completed Al Kitaab part 1). The student should be able to use basic grammatical and lexical structures in Arabic.
Level II
This class is designed for the student who has basic exposure to Arabic in an academic setting (at least 2 semesters ). The student should be able to use basic and some complex grammatical and lexical structures in Arabic.
Advanced MSA
This class is designed for the student who has obtained a fluent level of Arabic in an academic setting. The student should be able to use with ease most grammatical and lexical structures in Arabic
